First Choice Closets

Custom closets, built-in wardrobes and garage storage in Perth Amboy — the city our workshop calls home, from the older streets around Smith Street and the waterfront to the townhouses of Harbortown.

Perth Amboy is where our workshop is. Every closet system we install, in Perth Amboy or anywhere else we work, is built there to order before it reaches the house.

The housing here is some of the oldest in the county: narrow lots, two-family homes and rowhouses built long before anyone expected a walk-in closet, alongside newer townhouses on the waterfront. Both have the same problem from opposite directions — too little storage, or storage that was never fitted. See how the process works.

Custom Storage Services in Perth Amboy, NJ

Walk-In Closets

For the waterfront townhouses and newer homes, where the walk-in came with a single rail and a shelf and nothing else.

Reach-In Closets

The older-house job. Shallow closets rebuilt with double hanging, drawers and shelving taken to the ceiling.

Wardrobes & Built-Ins

For bedrooms in older homes that never had a closet, built to fit walls and alcoves that are rarely square.

Garage Storage Systems

Wall systems and overhead racks where there is a garage, so it can hold what the house cannot.

Home Office Storage

Built-in desks and shelving that fit a spare corner, for households that work from home part of the week.

Pantry & Linen Closets

Pull-outs and adjustable shelving that make a narrow pantry or linen closet hold twice as much.

Built in Perth Amboy

Our workshop is in Perth Amboy, which means the systems installed in this city are built a few minutes from where they end up. Nothing is pulled off a shelf: each one is made to the measurements taken in your home, finished, and checked before installation day.

That matters most in older houses, where no two walls are quite the same. Building to measure is what lets a closet fit a room that was framed by hand a century ago. See the finishes →

Older Homes, Narrow Lots and Two-Family Houses

Much of Perth Amboy was built on narrow lots, and a large share of the housing near downtown is rowhouses and two-family homes. They were designed when a household owned far less, so the closets are small, shallow and often missing from rooms that are now used as bedrooms.

The fix is to get more out of every inch that is there. Existing reach-ins are rebuilt internally — double hanging where the clothing allows, a drawer tower in place of a dresser standing in the room, shelving to the ceiling. Where a bedroom has no closet at all, a built-in wardrobe creates one, made to fit walls that are rarely square. See reach-in closet systems →

Two Households, One Building

In a two-family home each unit has its own limited storage, and an owner who lives in one and rents the other usually wants both to work. We design for each unit separately, so the closets fit how each household actually lives.

Harbortown and the Waterfront Townhouses

The newer townhouses along the waterfront are built upward rather than outward, which puts every floor under pressure. Their walk-in closets usually arrive with one rail around the walls and a single shelf, which uses the perimeter and wastes the height and the middle of the room.

Fitting one properly means double-hang sections, a drawer bank where the floor allows it and full-height shelving for things used twice a year. Entry storage comes up almost every time too: a shallow run of cabinetry with hooks and a bench gives coats, bags and shoes a place without taking real depth. See walk-in closet systems →

Perth Amboy Custom Closet FAQs

Where is your workshop?

In Perth Amboy. Every system we install across New Jersey and the New York area is built there to order.

Which parts of Perth Amboy do you cover?

The whole city — downtown, the waterfront, Harbortown and the newer developments at the edges — plus neighboring Woodbridge, Edison and Metuchen.

Our older house has small, shallow closets. Is a custom system worth it?

Usually yes. Rebuilding the inside of a reach-in with double hanging, drawers and shelving to the ceiling can roughly double what it holds without changing the room.

A bedroom in our house has no closet. What can be done?

A built-in wardrobe. It creates storage where the house never provided any, runs to the ceiling and is made to fit walls and alcoves that are rarely square.

Do you work in townhouses and condominiums with association rules?

Yes. The system is built in our workshop and installation is usually a single day with no structural alteration, which is straightforward to clear with an association.

Do you charge for the consultation?

No. The in-home consultation, measurements and 3D design are free, with no obligation.

How long does installation take?

Most single-room installations are completed in one day. Larger projects are scheduled over several days, with the schedule agreed in advance.
