First Choice Closets

Custom closets, wardrobes, garage systems and built-in storage designed and installed for Marlboro homes. We're based in Manalapan, minutes from Route 79 and Route 18, and Marlboro is one of the towns we work in most.

We are a Marlboro closet company in the practical sense: design, manufacture and installation handled by one team. Whether it is a full closet remodel, a straight closet installation in a room that was never fitted out properly, or a complete closet system for a new primary suite, we measure it, build it and fit it ourselves.

Marlboro Township covers Marlboro proper along with Morganville and Robertsville, and the housing stock varies more than most people expect. A 1960s ranch in Monmouth Heights has a completely different storage problem from a 4,000 square foot colonial in Lexington Estates or a refurbished 1950s bungalow off Route 520. We design around the house you actually have, which is why the first step is always an in-home visit.

Door Styles and Finishes

Every system is finished to your choice of door profile and color. Corner joints are built with mortise and tenon joinery.

Designing Around Marlboro's Housing Stock

Marlboro developed in waves, and each wave left a different storage challenge behind.

Monmouth Heights and the 1960s developments

The Levitt-built homes in Monmouth Heights — ranches, colonials and bi-levels — were built without basements. That single detail changes how a family stores things. With no basement to absorb the overflow, pressure lands on bedroom closets, the garage and whatever the linen closet can hold. In these homes we usually start with the garage system and the reach-in closets, because that is where the capacity actually is.

Lexington Estates, Georgetown Estates and the newer builds

The 2000s-era colonials have generous primary suites and walk-in closets that are large but rarely fitted out well. Builder-grade closets in these homes typically come with a single rod and one shelf running the perimeter, which wastes most of the vertical space in a room with nine or ten foot ceilings. Double-hanging sections, drawer banks and full-height cabinetry often double the usable capacity without touching a wall.

Older Marlboro and Robertsville homes

The 1950s bungalows, split-levels and refurbished colonials have the opposite issue: small, awkwardly shaped closets, sloped ceilings and walls that are rarely square. This is where made-to-order matters most. Stock closet kits assume right angles and standard depths; a system built to measured dimensions uses the corners and odd bays a kit has to skip over.

Why Marlboro Homeowners Work With Us

We manufacture what we design, and our own team handles installation — no subcontractors, and one point of contact from the first visit through to the final walkthrough. Most installations finish in a single day.

Because we're in Manalapan, Marlboro is a short drive rather than a regional call-out. That matters for scheduling the consultation, for the install itself, and for the small adjustments that occasionally come up afterwards. More about our team →

How the Process Works

You see the finished design before anything is built. A designer visits your Marlboro home, measures the space and asks how you use it. We review finishes, door profiles and hardware together, share costs as the design develops, then produce a 3D rendering for you to approve. Once approved, your system is fabricated to those measurements and installed by our team, finishing with a walkthrough.

Marlboro Custom Closet FAQs

How much does a custom closet cost in Marlboro?

It depends on the size of the space and the specification, which is why we quote after seeing the room rather than from a price list. The same layout can be built at very different price points — adjusting finishes, simplifying a section or phasing a larger project all move the figure meaningfully. You get a written quote covering materials, hardware, delivery and installation before anything is made.

Do you charge for the consultation?

No. The in-home consultation, the measurements and the 3D design are free, and there is no obligation to proceed.

How long does installation take?

Most single-room installations are completed in one day. Larger projects — multiple closets, a garage system, or whole-home work — are scheduled over several days, and we give you the schedule in advance.

Do you only build closets?

No. Alongside walk-in and reach-in closets we build wardrobes and built-ins, garage storage systems, home office storage, and pantry and linen closets. Many Marlboro projects combine two or three of these.

Can you work around a renovation that's already underway?

Yes. We regularly coordinate with contractors, painters and flooring installers on Marlboro renovations. Tell us who else is working in the house and we will schedule around them.

My closet has sloped ceilings and odd angles. Can you still do it?

That is exactly where made-to-order systems earn their cost. Because every component is cut to your measurements, angled walls, low ceilings and non-square corners become usable storage instead of dead space.
