First Choice Closets

Custom closets, built-in wardrobes and garage storage across Middletown — bayshore capes in Port Monmouth, Belford and Leonardo, split-levels in River Plaza and New Monmouth, and the larger homes of Lincroft and Navesink.

Middletown is the largest township in Monmouth County by population, and it is really a collection of neighbourhoods: Port Monmouth, Belford and Leonardo along the bayshore, River Plaza, New Monmouth and Fairview in the middle, and Lincroft, Navesink and Locust to the south and east.

The houses change from one section to the next, and so do the storage problems. What they share is closets planned for a different household, or barely planned at all. We design storage to the room, build it in our workshop and install it with our own team. See how the process works.

Walk-In Closets

Primary-bedroom walk-ins in Lincroft, Navesink and Locust homes, fitted as rooms rather than finished with one rail.

Reach-In Closets

The bayshore and River Plaza job: small cape, ranch and split-level closets rebuilt with double hanging, drawers and shelving to the ceiling.

Wardrobes & Built-Ins

Built-in wardrobes for dormers, additions and converted rooms that gained a bedroom but not a closet.

Garage Storage Systems

Boats, beach gear, bikes and tools on the walls and overhead, so the garage works again.

Home Office Storage

Built-in desks and shelving for a spare bedroom turned office.

Pantry & Linen Closets

Pull-outs and adjustable shelving for pantries and linen closets where every inch counts.

Bayshore Capes and Bungalows

Along the bayshore — Port Monmouth, Belford, Leonardo — many homes are capes, bungalows and ranches built when a household owned a fraction of what it does now. The rooms work; the closets are shallow reach-ins with a single rail and a shelf, and the upstairs closets often sit under a sloping roof.

Rebuilding the inside of an existing closet is the quickest gain: double hanging where shirts and jackets need only forty inches, a drawer tower in place of a dresser in the room, and shelving taken right up to the ceiling. Under a slope, the layout follows the roofline so no space is wasted. Many of these houses have been expanded with dormers or rear additions, and the new rooms often have no closet at all; a built-in wardrobe solves that. See reach-in closet systems →

Narrow walk-in closet with drawers and hanging

Split-Levels, Colonials and the Larger Homes

Through River Plaza, New Monmouth and Fairview, split-levels and colonials from the 1960s and 1970s are the norm: reasonable closets in every bedroom, each finished the same way regardless of what goes in it. A proper fit-out typically doubles what they hold without making them any bigger.

In Lincroft, Navesink and Locust the homes are larger and usually have a walk-in closet off the primary bedroom. Builders finish those with a rail around the walls and one shelf; fitted as a room — double-hang sections, drawer banks, shoe shelving and full-height storage — the same walk-in becomes far more useful. Finishes That Suit the House

Eleven door profiles and a wide range of finishes mean a closet in a bayshore cape and one in a Navesink colonial can each look like they belong. See the finishes →

Garages and Mudrooms Near the Water

Close to Sandy Hook Bay, the Navesink River and Hartshorne Woods, a lot of what a household owns is for the water and the outdoors — boating and fishing gear, beach chairs, kayaks, bikes — and most of it ends up on the garage floor.

Wall-mounted systems and overhead racks get it organised by season, so the car fits again. Inside, an entry or mudroom wall with hooks, a bench and cabinets stops wet gear and sandy shoes from spreading through the house. See garage storage →

Custom Closet Cost in Middletown

The cost of a custom closet in Middletown depends on the size of the space, the layout and the materials, drawers and finishes you choose. In bayshore capes and bungalows as much as the larger colonials, a reach-in rebuilt with double hanging and shelving is a smaller project than a walk-in with drawer banks and doors, so no single price fits every home.

That is why the design and the quote come first. After the free in-home consultation you see the closet in 3D and get a written quote for that design, before anything is built. A store-bought kit can cost less up front, but it comes in fixed sizes; a system built to the exact measurements uses the full height and width of the space, which is where most of the extra storage comes from.

Choosing the Best Custom Closet Company in Middletown

The best custom closet companies design, build and install their own work. Before you choose, ask who measures your home, where the system is made and who installs it, and read recent reviews.

With First Choice Closets it is one team from start to finish: the designer who measures your home in Middletown, our workshop in Perth Amboy that builds the system, and our own installers, never subcontractors. Licensed NJ Home Improvement Contractor No. 13VN14029700. Why homeowners choose us →

Middletown Custom Closet FAQs

Which parts of Middletown do you cover?

All of it, including Lincroft, Navesink, Locust, Leonardo, Belford, Port Monmouth, River Plaza, New Monmouth and Fairview.

Our cape has small closets under the roof. Can they be fitted?

Yes. The layout follows the slope, with hanging where there is height and shelving or drawers where there is not, so the whole space is used.

We added a bedroom but no closet. What can be done?

A built-in wardrobe, made to measure for the wall or alcove, holds far more than freestanding furniture and looks like part of the house.

Can you organise a garage full of boating and beach gear?

Yes. Wall systems and overhead racks get it off the floor and grouped by season, so the car fits again.

Do you charge for the consultation?

No. The in-home consultation, measurements and 3D design are free, with no obligation.

Are custom closets worth the money?

For most homes, yes. A system built to the exact space usually holds far more than the single rod and shelf it replaces, and it is built to last rather than to be replaced.

Is it cheaper to buy or build a closet?

A store-bought kit usually costs less up front, but it comes in fixed sizes that rarely fit the whole space. A custom system is built to your measurements and uses the full height and width. After the free design you get a written quote for your closet, so you can compare before deciding.

How long does installation take?

Timing depends on the size and scope of the project. We agree the installation schedule with you once the design is approved.
