First Choice Closets

Custom closets, built-in wardrobes and garage storage for Englishtown — the older houses around Main Street and the Village Inn, and the newer homes and townhouses further out.

Englishtown is a small borough — well under a square mile — sitting entirely inside Manalapan Township, and our home office on Tennent Road is just outside it. For Englishtown homeowners that means the consultation, the measuring and the installation all happen close to home.

Small as it is, the borough has a real mix of houses. The older ones near the centre were built long before anyone planned closets, and the newer ones have closets that were sized to a floor plan rather than to the people living there. Both get the same answer: storage designed and built to the room. See how the process works.

Custom Storage Services in Englishtown, NJ

Walk-In Closets

Primary-bedroom walk-ins in newer homes, fitted properly instead of finished with one rail and one shelf.

Reach-In Closets

The most common Englishtown job. Small closets rebuilt with double hanging, drawers and shelving to the ceiling.

Wardrobes & Built-Ins

For older rooms with no closet at all, or one too shallow to hang a coat in — a wardrobe built into the wall or an alcove.

Garage Storage Systems

Wall systems and overhead racks so the garage holds the bikes, tools and seasonal gear and still fits a car.

Home Office Storage

Built-in desks and shelving for a spare room or a corner that has become the office.

Pantry & Linen Closets

Older Houses Near Main Street

Englishtown's centre goes back to the Revolution — Washington drew up the court-martial papers against General Charles Lee in the Village Inn after the Battle of Monmouth in 1778 — and the streets around it still have houses from well before closets were standard.

In those homes the problem is rarely a lack of space in the room. It is that the storage was added later, wherever it fitted: a shallow closet under the eaves, a cupboard in a chimney alcove, a bedroom with none. Walls are rarely square and ceilings change height from one room to the next.

That is exactly where made-to-measure pays off. A built-in wardrobe can follow a sloping ceiling or fill an alcove from floor to ceiling, and an existing closet can be rebuilt inside so a shallow space holds twice what it did. See wardrobes and built-ins →

Newer Homes: Closets That Fit the Plan, Not the Family

The newer houses and townhouses around the borough usually do have closets in every bedroom, and often a walk-in off the primary bedroom. The trouble is how they are finished: one rail and one shelf, the same in every room, whatever goes in it.

A closet finished that way uses the wall and wastes the rest — the height above the shelf, the space under shirts and jackets that need only forty inches of drop, the corners. Fitting it with double hanging, a drawer tower and full-height shelving routinely doubles what it holds without making the closet any bigger. See reach-in closet systems →

Walk-Ins Worth the Floor Space

A walk-in should be treated as a small room rather than a large cupboard: hanging sized to the clothes, drawers in place of a dresser in the bedroom, shoe shelving, and storage up high for the things used twice a year. See walk-in closet systems →

Garages, Pantries and the Rest of the House

Closets are where most projects start, but they are not where storage problems end. In a borough of compact lots, the garage is often the only real overflow space, and it fills up fast. Wall panels and overhead racks get everything off the floor so the car goes back in. See garage storage →

The same thinking applies to pantries and linen closets: pull-out shelves and adjustable heights make a narrow cupboard usable to the back. Everything is built in our Perth Amboy workshop to the measurements taken in your home, and most single-room installations take a day.

Englishtown Custom Closet FAQs

Do you work in Englishtown?

Yes. Englishtown sits entirely inside Manalapan Township, and our home office on Tennent Road is just outside the borough, so it is one of the closest places we work.

Our older house has almost no closet space. What can be done?

Usually a built-in wardrobe. Made to measure, it can fill an alcove, follow a sloping ceiling or run along a wall where a closet was never planned, and it holds far more than freestanding furniture.

Can you fit a closet where the walls are not square?

Yes. Every system is built to the measurements taken in your home, so uneven walls and changing ceiling heights are planned for rather than worked around.

The closets in our newer home are full. Do we need bigger closets?

Rarely. Most builder closets have one rail and one shelf, which wastes the height and the space under the clothes. Refitting them with double hanging, drawers and full-height shelving often doubles the capacity.

Do you charge for the consultation?

No. The in-home consultation, measurements and 3D design are free, with no obligation.

How long does installation take?

Most single-room installations are completed in one day. Larger projects are scheduled over several days, with the schedule agreed in advance.
